redsn0w 0.9.9b1 is released. Here are the new features :

  • Automatic device & firmware detection via DFU mode
  • Grab IPSW version from Apple
  • Cache custom & beta IPSWs locally
  • Easier tethered boot with preferences saved
  • “Pwned DFU” option to quickly enter into DFU mode without button sequence
  • Various blob features pertaining to custom IPSW versions & storage on Cydia servers

It provides UNTETHERED jailbreak of iOS up to version 4.3.3 for the following devices :

  • iPhone 4 (GSM)
  • iPhone 4 (CDMA, iOS 4.2.8)
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch 2G / 3G
  • iPad
  • iPad 2
… and it provides TETHERED jailbreak for iOS up to version 4.3.5 ( & iOS 5 betas ) for the above devices .
If you really want to jailbreak 4.3.4 or higher version , here is a WARNING :
  • You will have to connect to computer EVERY TIME you reboot
  • You will have to use redsn0w function “just boot tethered right now”
  • Downgrading to previous version is RISKY , you will probably lose all your data
  • If you are stupid enough to reboot without a computer around , your phone will be stuck in white Apple logo , until you use redsn0w to reboot

Cannot open all App Store apps after jailbreak – Solution

My friend’s iPhone 3GS ( iOS 4.3.3 ) is just jailbroken yesterday using redsn0w. After standard jailbreaking procedures, all App Store apps cannot be opened ( once launched , crash back to Springboard ) while original iOS apps like Camera & Phone remain normal .

The solution is : try to download a free app from App Store . After launched the newly downloaded free app , all apps become normal again .

Big news for iDevice jailbreakers, Cydia posted its first update itself in repository , from version 1.0.3366-1 to 1.1.1 . Cydia is the alternative to App Store, providing useful packages to enhance the functions of iDevices.

Here is the quick summary of change log:

  • Ability to run and operate Activator, libstatusbar, and SimulatedKeyEvents while Cydia is running
  • Overall speed improvements, including and especially the “Loading Changes” dialog

Sony’s new measures to deal with PS3 jailbreakers

Sony finally responded to PS3 jailbreaking acts. PS3 jailbreakers will be in trouble this time. Sony announced on 16 Feb 2011 that the company will terminate the PlayStation Network (PSN) service of PS3 jailbreakers permanently.
