28 Sep, 2011 11:29

Mozilla released a major update on its browser software Firefox . The latest version of Firefox is 7.0 .

New features are as follow :

  • [Performance] Drastically improved memory handling for certain use cases
  • [Performance] Added a new rendering backend to speed up Canvas operations on Windows systems
  • [Features] Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync
  • [User Interface] The ‘http://’ URL prefix is now hidden by default
  • [CSS3] Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis
  • [Features] Added support for the Web Timing specification
  • [Features] Enhanced support for MathML
  • [Performance] The WebSocket protocol has been updated from version 7 to version 8
  • [Reporting] Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Firefox
  • [Bugfix] Fixed several stability issues
  • [Bugfix] Fixed several security issues
Though these new shiny features are quite attractive, Mozilla must take steps to allow Add-Ons to be forward compatible, as more & more add-ons are disabled due to recent Firefox upgrades . We almost gave up Firefox , as it makes most of the useful Add-Ons not working anymore .
To download Firefox , here are the links: ( if old version of Firefox is installed , updates will perform automatically , no manual download is needed )
  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Linux ( not recommended ; please use your distribution updates instead of downloading via this link )

IE6 Countdown

8 Jul, 2011 13:53

It’s about the time for Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), a 10-year-old browser, to retire.

Microsoft created a website, The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown , to illustrate the percentage of population still using IE6. From the statistics, China is the world’s leading IE6 usage country ( 33.6% of population is using IE6 ), probably due to the use of pirated Windows and unable to update their browsers as Windows Genuine Advantage blocks the way.

Yes, Raptor Talks suggest all the visitors to upgrade to latest Internet Explorer version, or even better, switch to Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox . This site does not support Internet Explorer 6 .
