Mac OS X : Mountain Lion
posted on 17 Feb, 2012 00:46 Apple
Apple unveiled next generation of Mac OS X today ( 16 February , 2012 ) . A lot of new features are added and many features originally in iOS 5 are introduced to Mountain Lion . It replaces many common third-party software’s features as well .
It adds the following new features :
iCloud :
we all expect it . Fully integrating iCloud to Mac OS X makes the new operating system’s settings & documents saved online . You will not worry about your Mac die one day and settings are lost ; the documents & settings are simply restored with the godlike power of iCloud . For documents , you can even access them in any other Mac and even iPhones . ( bye Dropbox … )
Notification Center :
this convenient feature now comes to Mountain Lion . Notification types are the same with iOS : Banners , Alerts or None . ( bye Growl … )
Reminders & To-Do List :
Apps from iOS , yes . Of course , they are in sync with iCloud , as well as your phone .
Share Sheets :
this feature button will appear everywhere , allows you to share the information you browse easily .
Built-in Social Networks :
Twitter native app is here . Also Flickr , Vimeo & AOL . No Google’s products like YouTube ? No Facebook ? well …
Game Center :
Manage your game apps , scores & achievements on Mac . You can even find players for multiplayer games .
AirPlay Mirroring :
With the help of Apple TV , the screen on Mac can be streamed to HDTV . Best for HD movies .
Gatekeeper :
This feature will protect you from installing malicious software . May cause annoyance if the user is not that familiar with this feature .
New features for China :
Mail , Calendar & Contacts now work with QQ , 126 , 163 , Sina , Youku . Personally I think this is unnecessary as these companies help pirated software & media to spread .
Replacing the following features :
from iChat to Messages :
the new Messages act like a multi-protocol messenger , which supports iMessage ( of course ) , Google Talk , Yahoo , etc. ( bye Adium … )
chatting between Mac and iPhones will be convenient .
beta version of Messages can be download here .
from Stickies to Notes :
another iOS app comes to Mac OS X . It replaces old Stickies with Notes app , well-managed and with sharing features . Again , sync with iCloud .
Last , Mountain Lion will be available this summer . Stay tuned .
